Prospective Position Holders (Archery), Olympics 2016

A word of Apology :-

It's been quite sometime since i updated my blog although a lot has been going on in sports lately. So apologies for the same. It becomes really important to ease the readers into knowing the facts and increase their knowledge of the same in-spite the growing complexity in every sports event with time. So to justify the reason for making this blog, i have dived in again to squeeze out that simplicity for all of you.

Archery :

Archery has been a part of Summer Olympics since 1900 (Paris). Talking about the best of all time Archers, Hubert Van Innis(24 feb 1866 - 25 nov 1961) of Belgium is the most successful archer scoring 6 gold and 3 silver medals in 1920 summer olympics.

Hubert is followed by
  • Julien Brule (French) (Individual events - 1 Gold + 1 Silver) (Team events - 2 Silver + 1 Bronze)
  • Louis van de  Perck (Belgian) (Individual events - 2 Silver) (Team events - 1 Gold)

In the Women section
  • Soo-Nyung Kim (Born 5 apr, 1971) (South Korea) (Female Archer of 20th century) (4 Gold + 1 Silver + 1 Bronze)
  • Sung-Hyun Park (Born 1 jan, 1983) (South Korea) (3 Gold + 1 Silver)
  • Mi-Jin Yun (Born 30 apr, 1983) (South Korea) (3 Gold)
So Korean's apparently rule the Olympic women Archery.

The history reveals that Archery was not contested in 1912 olympics and it also had a major break during 1924 to 1968.

Recurve Bow discipline of archery is typically used at the olympics. This kind of a bow provides more speed to the arrow because of the limbs of  the bow curve away from the archer.

Top 3 Nations (Since 1972):

  1. South Korea (19 Gold + 9 Silver + 6 Bronze = 34)
  2. United States (8 Gold + 4 Silver + 2 Bronze = 14)
  3. Italy (2 Gold + 2 Silver + 3 Bronze = 7)
